Lecture 1-2: The Origins and Silent Cinema.
The First Steps: From Lumière to Italian Silent Cinema
- Focus: Introduction to Italian cinema, basic vocabulary (film, director, actor, scene). Review of the near past.
- Materials: Short excerpts from Italian silent films (e.g., “Cabiria”).
Lesson 3-5: Neorealism - The Voices of Postwar Italy.
Neorealism: Italy reborn on the silver screen.
Lexicon related to society, war, poverty. Use of the imperfect to describe past situations.

Focus: Vocabulary related to art, psychology, dreams. Use of the present subjunctive to express doubts and desires.
Lecture 12-14: The Italian-style detective story and horror (Giallo and Dario Argento)
Italian-style thrills: The giallo and horror auteur
Focus: vocabulary of mystery, fear, investigation. Use of combined pronouns.
Lecture 17-18: The New Italian Cinema (1980s to Today)
Cinema and society: The films that made history
Focus: Political, social, justice vocabulary. Use of the distant past (for historical events).
Lesson 19-20: Your favorite movie and future plans
Contemporary Cinema: new voices and stories of today.
Lexicon of modernity, current daily life. Use of the gerund.
Focus: Expression of preferences, general review of vocabulary and structures A2.
