Materials: excerpts from “La Locandiera” or “Il servitore di due padroni.”

When Theater Tells Reality: Verga and the Social Theater.

Focus: Lexicon related to society and politics. Use of the distant past to narrate historical events.

Materials: Excerpts from Verga’s “Cavalleria rusticana.”

Pirandello: Reality and the Mask

Focus: vocabulary of psychology, philosophy, identity. Use of the present subjunctive to express doubts, assumptions, and opinions.

Materials: reading of excerpts from“Six Characters in Search of an Author.”

Eduardo: The Soul and Heart of Naples

Focus: Idiomatic expressions, vocabulary of family and everyday life. Use of combined pronouns and forms of politeness.

Materials: Reading scenes from “Filumena Marturano” or “Christmas in the Cupiello House.”

Theater, Experimentation and New Proposals

Focus: Vocabulary of modern and contemporary theater (directing, set design, lighting). Use of the hypothetical period.

Materials: Discussion of works by contemporary filmmakers.

From Text to Scene: analysis of a work Integral

Focus: summary and application of all B1-level grammatical structures in a real-world context.

Materials: reading and discussion of a short text by an author.

Focus: independent oral production, exposition of an opinion on a theatrical theme.

Activity: each student prepares and presents a short monologue, followed by a discussion with the teacher.
